Where you sleep in the Agafay Desert

Three categories of tent, across the camps we work with on the plateau. We match the camp to your party, then you choose the tent.

There are more than a dozen camps on the Agafay plateau and they are not interchangeable. Some are built for couples and go quiet at eleven. Others run musicians every night and suit a group of friends. A few sit far enough out that you see nothing else from your terrace, which costs you twenty minutes of driving.

We work with a short list we have stayed in ourselves. Rather than asking you to pick from photographs of places you have never been, we ask who is travelling and what you want from the night, then place you in the camp that fits.

The three categories

One tent, three ways to sleep in it. The space, the bathroom, the terrace and the view are identical across the three categories. Only the beds and the number of guests change.

Rates are per tent per night, bed and breakfast. Dinner is served at the camp, €55 per person.

Single Tent

The same tent as the others, set up for one. You get the full space, the private bathroom and the terrace to yourself.

Questions about staying

Is dinner included?
No. Rates include the tent and breakfast. Dinner is served at the camp for €55 per person, and it is worth staying for: it is cooked on site and served after dark. Tell us when you book and we arrange it.
How and when do I pay?
You pay in cash on the day, on site, to the driver who brings you. There is no deposit, no card details to give and nothing charged on this website. Bring the amount with you: there is no card machine and no cash point on the plateau. Your booking is held on our written confirmation alone.
Why do the three categories look the same?
Because they are the same tent. The space, the bathroom, the terrace and the view do not change between Single, Double and Triple. What changes is the bedding and how many of you sleep in it. A solo traveller therefore has the whole tent, not a smaller one.
Do children pay?
Children under 3 stay free. For older children the rate depends on the camp and the tent, so ask us and we will confirm before you book. The Triple Tent is the one that suits a family.
Which camp will I be staying in?
We match the camp to your request, taking account of who is travelling, the dates and what you want from the night. Once we have held it, we send you photographs of the tents that are available so you choose the one you want. The camp is confirmed in writing before you pay.
Why do you not list the camps on the site?
Because the right camp depends on your trip, not on a page. Two couples travelling the same week can need two different camps. We would rather ask you three questions than let you guess from a photograph.
Do the tents have private bathrooms?
Every category we sell has a private bathroom with running hot water. The layout differs between camps, which is one of the things the photographs will show you.
Is there electricity and wifi?
Electricity, yes, usually solar with a generator behind it. Wifi exists at most camps but it is slow, and it stops at the edge of the communal area.
How cold does it get at night?
Colder than people expect, in every season. Winter nights can approach freezing. Blankets and heating are provided, but bring a jacket.
Can we book more than one tent?
Yes, and for groups it is often better to take a small camp in full. Tell us how many you are and we will price both options.
