Essaouira day trip — Atlantic coast and medina

Essaouira, nicknamed the “city of the trade winds” for its steady breeze, is the Atlantic three hours from Marrakech: ramparts pounded by waves, a fishing port full of blue boats, and a Unesco-listed medina you can wander without getting lost.
The day leaves you a long stretch of free time: drifting through the lanes, a grilled-fish lunch at the port, a walk on the beach. On the way, the near-obligatory photo stop at goats perched in the argan trees.

Frequently asked questions
How much free time is there?
Around four to five hours depending on traffic — enough for the medina, the port and a proper lunch.
Is it cooler than Marrakech?
Yes, markedly. The trade wind blows most of the year: pack an extra layer even in summer.
Can I surf or kitesurf?
The bay is made for it, but a day trip is too short for a serious session. For that you want a night there — ask us.
